Rosacea Laser Treatment
Rosacea, an inflammatory condition of facial skin, potentially devastates a sufferer’s self-esteem. Striking adults in their prime, the flushed-face condition resembles the biological expression of embarrassment, and is often quite noticeable, thus affecting one’s work and social life. Complicating matters even further, traditional dermatology treatments for rosacea depend on oral and topical antibiotics.
Effective ways to minimize rosacea flare-ups are to minimize exposure to the sun and to use broad-spectrum sunblock (SPF 30, anti-UVA and -UVB) regularly.
Unbeknownst to many patients or even dermatologists, advanced laser treatments do exist that can significantly reduce the redness and symptoms of rosacea, thereby improving a sufferer’s appearance and confidence as well as reducing the dependence on antibiotic treatments. RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Care offers laser treatments for both male and female patients with rosacea that are virtually pain-free.
Usually rosacea first appears as a flush or red patch. The most common symptoms include facial redness and inflammation around the nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead, as well as visibly dilated blood vessels and a burning sensation. If left untreated, rosacea worsens over time. The redness becomes more persistent, and bumps and pimples that can look like blisters appear.
The AURA Laser is a 532nm ND:Yag green-light laser, which ultimately heats up the capillary walls in the dermis layers of the skin. The procedure essentially inflames the vessels’ walls and closes them down.
The AURA Laser is also used to treat other chronic skin conditions such as telangiectasia (broken capillaries), angiomas, Campbell de Morgan spots (red spots on the body), venous lakes (lesions that usually develop on the lip), Port Wine Stains, other red birthmarks, and flushing.
An Aura treatment requires minimal down time, allowing patients to return to work or to resume normal activities on the same day. However, the treatments don’t prevent the development of new vessels, redness, or flushing, and because rosacea is a chronic, long-term condition, maintenance laser treatments are needed to control symptoms over the years. Indeed, improvement is incremental with each treatment. Gradually, patients notice the return of more natural-looking skin over time.
