Dr. Mohamed, McAllen Gynecologist & Vein Care Specialist
Following in her father’s footsteps, Dr. Samira Mohamed became a board-certified gynecologist and obstetrician and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After years of working with pregnant women and sharing in the miracle of birth, Dr. Mohamed decided to retire from obstetrics when she married Dr. Rodriguez and started her own family. Working with Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Mohamed is an expert in varicose vein treatments and continues to provide boutique gynecology services are RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Care.
Dr. Mohamed is a graduate of McAllen Memorial High School. She completed medical school at the prestigious Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2001. In 2002, she obtained her master’s degree in public health from the world-renowned Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After completing her ob/gyn training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 2006, she accepted a position with Harvard Vanguard Health System in Boston. A few years later, she returned to her home in the Rio Grande Valley to work with her father.
At that time, her father, Dr. Carlos Mohamed (now deceased), was the only gynecology-oncologist in South Texas. Fittingly, he founded the first Women’s Hospital at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Today, his daughter continues her father’s legacy by holding an administrative position at Womens’ Hospital at Renaissance, directing utilization review and case management as a physician advisor. She is one of the few physicians in the Rio Grande Valley certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (CHCQM).
As an ob-gyn, she has repeatedly witnessed the stress that pregnancy places on leg veins, something she suffered personally during her second pregnancy. The knotting, protrusion, and pain suffered by her patients inspired her to specialize in varicose vein treatment when she decided to retire from obstetrics. She regards the treatment of vein disease as very rewarding because it allows her to heal those suffering from varicose vein disease.
After giving birth to their daughter, Dr. Mohamed joined her husband, Dr. Filiberto Rodriguez at RGV Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Care in 2011, specializing in varicose vein disease and boutique gynecology. Upon completing advanced training in varicose vein disease under the direction of Dr. Rodriguez, she heads up the practice’s varicose vein teams in Edinburg and Brownsville.
Working closely with Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Mohamed performs gynecological procedures during tummy tuck surgeries. She also focuses on addressing female sexual function impairments and performing vaginal rejuvenation procedures.
Dr. Samira Mohamed is one of the few surgeons to perform surgery alongside her father as well as her husband. When asked about the experiences, she says words cannot truly describe how such moments have deepened her sense of admiration and respect for each of them.
Regarding her nonprofessional life, she is passionate about her family, friends, and Pilates.
