Dr. Rodriguez, McAllen Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Filiberto Rodriguez specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery and varicose vein disease. He has completed the rigorous training, examination, and credentialing process required for certification by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, in order to accomplish dual board certification as a Cosmetic Surgeon. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He returned home to the Rio Grande Valley after twenty years of education and advanced training in some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions.
After graduating magna cum laude from McAllen Memorial High School, Dr. Rodriguez attended top-ranked Princeton University, where in addition to his premedical studies, he received a double major in Economics and Latin American Politics. Dr. Rodriguez was then awarded a full academic scholarship to attend the University of Virginia School of Medicine – a program famous for its intense hands-on training of medical students.
After medical school, Dr. Rodriguez was selected into the nationally recognized surgical residency program at Stanford University where he completed nine years of extensive General, Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgical training. During this time, he also completed an intensive post-doctoral research fellowship in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery where he published 36 manuscripts, presented over 49 abstracts at international conferences, and received numerous awards including funding from the National Institutes of Health, The American College of Surgeons Scholarship for the Study of Surgical Wound Healing, and the American Heart Association Vivian Thomas Award.
Dr. Rodriguez ultimately chose to pursue training in plastic and cosmetic surgery. He completed one year as a fellow in the prestigious plastic surgery program at UCLA Medical Center, where he had the opportunity to work with world-renowned plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills. Dr. Rodriguez chose to refine his cosmetic surgical skills and experience by undertaking an additional one-year fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery at the Body Sculpting Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he personally performed over one-thousand surgeries, with a particular emphasis on beautiful body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasty, breast enhancement, liposculpting, and gluteal augmentation, as well as facial rejuvenation. He is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and also as a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
In addition to bringing the latest advances and refined techniques in cosmetic surgery from Beverly Hills and Scottsdale to the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Rodriguez also applies his expertise in cardiovascular surgery to provide state-of-the-art care for varicose vein disease. Dr. Rodriguez works with Dr. Samira Mohamed, a board-certified gynecologist, to provide the latest, and minimally invasive treatments for varicose vein disease. Our team is recognized as a center of excellence and is a national training center through the American College of Phlebology. Dr. Rodriguez is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine, and recognized as a Registered Physician for the Vascular Interpretation of ultrasound (RPVI) by the American Registry for Diagnostic and Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Dr. Rodriguez is recognized as a leader in breast augmentation, gluteal augmentation, and abdominoplasty surgery. He is often invited to speak at national meetings: Extended Mommy Makeover surgeries with gluteal augmentation using Fat Transfer or Butt Implants at the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians National Meeting in San Antonio, TX, August 2017; Safety in Long and Complex Cosmetic Surgery at the 2015 California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Conference in Newport, CA and at the 2016 national American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Scientific Sessions; Advanced materials and techniques for complex revision breast augmentation surgery at the 2014 California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Conference in Newport, CA and at the 2015 national American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Scientific Sessions. His work with advanced techniques for rapid-recovery abdominoplasty have been published in the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and have been presented at the 2010 annual meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the 2011 International Symposium of Minimal Invasive Plastic Surgery & Dermatology in Bangkok, Thailand, the 2011 World Academy of Cosmetic Surgery 2nd Annual Meeting in Vienna, Austria, and the 10th Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress & Medispa in Monte Carlo, Monaco 2012. Dr. Rodriguez is also an examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, and he is the current president of the Texas Cosmetic Surgery Society.
